What if losing weight and keeping it off wasn’t about having more willpower? What if the real change started with rebuilding your relationship with food, your confidence, and the belief that you can do hard things?
When Ellen started her weight loss journey, she had three children under five, a demanding job, and very little time for herself.
She had tried diets before. She could lose weight by restricting what she ate, but eventually the weight would come back. Each time, she felt more like she had failed.
She was also worried about what her children were learning from her relationship with food and body image.
Fast forward two and a half years: Ellen has lost 46 pounds and kept it off. But the weight loss is only part of her story.
The woman who once struggled to walk up a hill has now completed a Half Ironman—a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride, and 13.1-mile run.
In this episode, Ellen shares what helped her create lasting change without relying on another restrictive diet.
You’ll hear:
Why changing her relationship with food helped her finally maintain her weight loss.
How she stopped using food to cope with loneliness, emotions, and the feeling that she “deserved” a treat.
Why seeing food as fuel changed how she ate and how she felt.
How small amounts of movement grew into running, strength training, triathlons, and eventually a Half Ironman.
How she found time to exercise while raising three young children and working a busy job.
Why planning and getting support from her family made consistency easier.
How becoming more active changed the example she was setting for her children.
Why learning to “do it scared” helped her build confidence far beyond weight loss.
This conversation is a powerful reminder that sustainable weight loss isn’t just about seeing a smaller number on the scale. It’s about changing the patterns that keep pulling you back into emotional eating, restriction, and yo-yo dieting.
You don’t need to train for an Ironman. You don’t need to overhaul your whole life tomorrow.
But you can start proving to yourself that change is possible—one small decision at a time.
If you’ve lost weight before only to regain it, and you’re ready to break that cycle for good, listen to the full episode now.
