What Really Happens When You Stop Weight Loss Injections (And Why the Weight Comes Back)

What if the weight loss everyone is celebrating… is only temporary?
And what if stopping the injections is where the real problem begins?

In this episode, Max Lowery breaks down a major new Oxford-led study published in the British Medical Journal that’s been dominating headlines. Instead of asking whether weight loss injections work, this research asked a far more important question: what happens after you stop taking them?

The answer is confronting, especially for women over 40.

Across 37 studies and more than 9,000 people, researchers found that once weight loss injections stop, weight regain is not random or rare. On average, people regain around 0.4kg every month, with most returning to their starting weight within 12–18 months. Even more concerning? Improvements in blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure often disappear faster than the weight comes back.

Max explains why this happens, and why it’s not about willpower or failure.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why rapid weight loss often comes with muscle loss, and why that’s especially dangerous during perimenopause and menopause

  • How appetite suppression doesn’t fix “sugar-burning mode” or metabolic inflexibility

  • Why cravings often come roaring back after injections stop (especially at night)

  • The hidden emotional eating patterns that medication pauses, but never resolves

  • Why many women end up feeling worse off long-term, even after losing weight initially

You’ll also hear real-world stories from the media that mirror what Max sees daily with clients who come off GLP-1 medications and feel shocked by how fast cravings, food noise, and weight return.

Most importantly, Max challenges the idea that injections are a solution rather than a tool. He explains what actually needs to change for weight loss to last: protecting muscle, rebuilding metabolic flexibility, learning new emotional coping skills, and creating a life where food no longer feels like the problem, or the solution.

This episode is not anti-medication. It’s pro-truth, pro-education, and pro-women understanding what their bodies really need.
